Picasso’s Salon
Hand painted blonde color work done at Picasso's Salon

Careers

There is a chair
open here.

We are hiring licensed stylists on commission. If you are good at color, serious about getting better, and tired of being one of twelve people in a room where nobody knows your name, read on.

Why here

A small house with a long reputation.

Picasso’s has been on East Atlantic Street since 2007. Four chairs, a 4.9 rating, and a client list built one head at a time over nineteen years. What we are looking for is somebody who wants to be part of that rather than pass through it.

Commission, and it is worth having

Commission structure with room to move as your book fills. We talk numbers openly in the first conversation, not after you have already moved your clients.

Clients already walking in

Nineteen years of word of mouth in a town where word of mouth is the whole game, plus phone and online bookings that need a chair to land in.

Education that is not a slogan

Our owner is a licensed cosmetology teacher. The salon has trained at the TIGI academy in New York. If you want to sharpen your color work, there is somebody here to sharpen it with.

Product you will not apologize for

Davines, Aveda, Alurám, ghd, Leaf & Flower, Brazilian Blowout. Color is mixed on a scale, gram by gram, and the back bar is stocked properly.

Real hours

Monday through Wednesday until seven, Thursday and Friday until five, closed Saturday and Sunday. Every weekend off, which in this industry is not nothing.

Your name on the site

You get a spot on the team page with your specialties and your work, and clients book you by name. Bring your Instagram, we will point people at it.

What we are looking for

The short list.

Required

A current license

Virginia cosmetology or barber license in good standing, or one transferring in from another state. Recent graduates, apply anyway and tell us where you are in the process.

Required

Color you are proud of

Send photos of your own work. Blondes, corrections, vivids, a cut that fell exactly right. We would rather see six honest photos than sixty filtered ones.

Required

The consultation habit

The stylists here talk before they touch. If you already work that way, you will fit. If you have never been taught how, we will teach you.

Apply

Tell us about yourself.

Takes about five minutes. Attach a resume if you have one and upload a handful of photos of your work. Everything comes straight to the owner.

License and experience

Bring your license with you to the interview. Please do not type your license number into this form.
What you are strongest at

Your resume

No resume? Skip it and tell us your history in the box below instead.

    Your work

Only upload photos you took or have permission to share.

      Confirm
Application sent. The owner reads every one of these personally. If it looks like a fit, you will hear from us within a week to set up a time to come in and talk.

We do not ask for your license number, Social Security number or date of birth on this form. Bring documents with you when you come in.

      What happens next

      Step one

      We read it

Your application goes to the owner directly. Expect to hear back within a week either way.

      Step two

      Come see the salon

A conversation, not an interrogation. Bring your license and see the space while it is busy so you know what you are walking into.

      Step three

      Show us your hands

A practical, either on a model you bring or on one of us. Nobody hires a stylist off a resume alone.

      Step four

      Numbers and a start date

Commission, schedule and how we would help you move your clients over. All of it out loud before you say yes.

      Would rather just call

Ask for Colette-Jeannine at (434) 774-0089, or email picassossalon@gmail.com. Walking in with your book on a Tuesday afternoon works too.

      Bring your work.

If you are good and you want to get better, this is a good room to do it in.
