About us
One house, four chairs, and a rule that has not changed since June of 2007: nobody leaves in a color that was not made for them.
The name
Colette-Jeannine named the salon for Pablo Picasso, and not because of any one painting. What Colette-Jeannine admired was the restlessness. The man painted, then sculpted, then took what he had built apart and put it back together a different way, and he did it for seventy years without settling into a formula.
That is a strange thing to name a business after until you sit in one of these chairs. Hair is not a product you pull off a shelf. It is a material with a history, and every head of it responds differently to the same tube of color. Treating each one as its own problem to solve is the whole job.
So the name is a promise more than a decoration. You will not get last week's formula because it was convenient. You will get one built for what is actually on your head today.

How we work
Every formula gets mixed by hand on a scale rather than eyeballed into a bowl. It takes longer. It is also the only way to repeat a color exactly on your next visit, or to walk a shade warmer for winter without starting over.
Bring photos. Bring the box color you used in 2019 and would rather not admit to. What we need to know is what the hair has been through, how much time you actually have in the morning, and how often you can get back in that chair.
Our owner is a licensed cosmetology teacher and the salon has trained at the TIGI academy in New York. Techniques change, hair products change, and staying current is the part of this job that happens on days the salon is closed.
Our team
Between them, more than eighty years of experience, two languages, and a standing argument about the right way to hold a razor.

Your first visit
We are in the white house with the black metal roof and the wide front porch, on the north side of East Atlantic Street. Park behind the building and come in the front door. There is no waiting room television and no rush.
Plan on fifteen minutes of talking before the cape goes on if it is your first time with us, and give color appointments more room in your day than you think they need. Good color is not fast color.
We are by appointment. If you need something same day, call rather than book online, because cancellations open up more often than the calendar shows.

On our shelves
We carry what we actually use behind the chair, so the thing that made your hair look like that is the thing you can take home.
Nineteen years, four chairs, and a color bar with a scale on it. Book a consultation and we will start there.
